Otters are animals that are hard not to like. If only more people had the fun loving nature of an otter I am quite sure the world would be a much nicer place.  River otters are most frequently around water although it is possible to see them traveling overland with their distinctive loping gait.

A friend and I watched a small family of river otters below the Upper Falls of the Tahquamenon River one summer.  Listening to their chirps, grunts and mock growls was almost as fun as seeing them.  This painting was number 6 in a series of painting done to promote the Tahquamenon State Park and other state parks of Michigan.
